Your journey creates real change in the communities you visit.
Giving back is an essential part of the experience. Ten percent of every tour booking is donated to SlumRise, a Kenya-registered Community-Based Organization operating in Mathare.
Through concrete and impactful projects, SlumRise works to support and uplift the local community—meaning that your visit contributes directly to real, visible change.
Public street lighting is largely absent in Mathare, despite being one of the first steps toward creating safer and more liveable urban spaces.
SlumRise has installed six independent solar-powered streetlight units, improving visibility at night and helping residents move more safely through their community.
Food security is a major challenge in Mathare. Traditional farming is rarely possible due to limited space and soil pollution.
SlumRise is introducing vertical farming systems that allow fresh vegetables to be grown in small areas. These gardens provide nutritious food for children at the Why Not Academy, while also teaching practical skills and promoting healthier diets.
SlumRise’s most important project is the Why Not Academy in Mathare—a safe space where children can learn, grow, and play.
The academy also provides a vital daily meal, offering stability and support to families facing food insecurity.
